ATA fundraiser

It’s been a while since we’ve been on the air in the bay area, and all in one swoop we were nominated (at least Jon and I were) for sexiest geeks of 2005 and we broadcast from the home of the original Indecency broadcasts - SanFrancisco’s Artist’s Television Access.

Having been made aware of my own back-end vulnerabilities I am currently asking all users to reset their passwords for my ass and we will see if any further security measures are necessary. That said, we really had fun providing a media outlet for the media alternative that is ATA on friday and missed Violet’s presence at said event. We hope to work with her again soon… extensively.

Here’s the ATA recap…..

We did interviews for a while and didn’t manage to talk to even half the people we had hoped to we did set the scene for a really fun evening of community and creativity. We began the evening talking to audience members on the air, including none other than David Cox (MP3) (whose work is incuded on the fabulous ATA DVD compilation available for a small donation of only $50). He spoke with Michael Trigilio about recycling of technology and the googlization of SanFrancisco.

Flint Jamison (MP3) spoke repetitively about repetition (including a rumination on public broadcasting fund drives)… eventually he had to be interrupted in order to end the looping performance.

Gilbert Guerrero (MP3) who helped organize the event introduced a list of potential interviewees, many of whom we were unable to interview for one reason or another. We probably missed our chance at interviewing a few people because we were too busy soliciting funds from people willing to pay to utter obscenities.

Following the purchase of obscenities we were assaulted by the noise attack of The Bulbs (MP3).

We began doing interviews around 9 and kicked the whole thing off with a pre-recorded piece by Guillermo Gomez-Peña (MP3). Then Noel Lawrence (MP3) of Other Cinema DVD was interviewed while trying to offer up a couple of DVDs from the Other Cinema collection.

Following Noel, I was pleased to have some time to chat with Erik Davis and Michael Rauner (MP3) about the book they are collaborating on called “The Visionary State:
A Journey through California’s Spiritual Landscape”
.

Michael spoke to Courtney Fink from Southern Exposure, and then one of ATA’s founding members Lise Swenson(MP3) joined us to talk about the history of the place as well as the nature of a few of her upcoming projects including a documentary that she’s making with Lynn Hershman about Steve Kurtz of the Critical Art Ensemble.

The evening ended in a noisy ruckus provided by the fine folks in Chen Santa Maria (MP3)

Now that the holidays are upon us stay tuned for a ramping up of bloggy activity, including backdated posts from the summer that were lost in the crush of activity toward the end of our Serbian/German sojourn.

Much exciting news to share as we go forward and we hope you will keep checking back here for the latest.
