Welcome to Week 3
Once again we thank all those who contributed to this week’s broadcast.
When doling out the thanks we particularly want to acknowledge Jon Brumit’s “Catch and Release” that featured Conrad Lewbell’s “Street Talkers” on Thursday and broadcast remotely from Friday’s Critical Mass ride on the 12th anniversary of Critical Mass. Michael Starve brought the best in left wing lunatic talk with Welfare Wednesdays, Theology Thursdays and Phone Call Fridays. Tune in Fridays from 7:00 - 7:30pm and call in to 415-863-3079 to go head to head with Michael Starve. Speaking of phone calls, we had a surprise guest in Marc Horowitz as he called people from around the country that had previously called him for a dinner date (his phone number was displayed on a white board in the latest Crate and Barrel catalogue).
Most importantly, we can’t ignore the fabulous 4 hours that the folks over at Mission Movie put together that started off with Tom Ammiano and ended with an informative panel with artists Skott Cowgill, Andrew Schoultz, Ivy Jeanne McClelland, and Suaro Cervantes. Live singing and beats with Deuce Eclipse kept it all together. Many thanks to all who came by on Saturday, and particular thanks to organizers Martina Tran and Stephanie Lim for all the hard work they put into making it happen.
On Friday of this past week we featured turntables, CDs, and laptop music from Cat Five. In the coming week we’re looking to put the focus on Hip Hop. On Wednesday afternoon from 5:00-5:30 Radical Tea Party will interview DJ Raw
Knowledge and DJ Drowning Dog from the anti-capitalist hip-hop/electronica
collective Entartete Kunst. Then on Wednesday evening from 7:30-8:00 Rachel Swann from Kitchen Sink magazine will present her article “Bleed Lovely: Good Misogyny in Hip Hop” from the last issue of KS. DJ Pone of the Norcal DJ and Music Production Academy will be joining us on the same show’s Friday night edition from 7:30 - 8:00pm. Fridays already have the best Hip Hop in the Mission thanks to the DJ Project from 4-5:30pm .. we’ll just keep it going for a bit longer when Pone comes in. All of this leads up to Hip Hop Slam’s “Bay Area DJ” event from 1-5pm on Saturday.
Things on the horizon: 10/8 Kitchen Sink presents “A Conspiracy of Beards” a men’s chorus that sings Leonard Cohen songs. 10/9 “An Afternoon of Spontaneous Composition” with Hideous Dream, Forward Energy, Left Coast Improv Group, Twine, and Electronico/Politico
at other miscellaneous times….more of Marc Horowitz’s dinner tour phone calls. We can’t get enough.
